Very good to excellent condition hickory wooden shafted Robert Forgan ‘THE TOLLEY’ wooden mallet long nose style putter. This beautiful golf club was crafted by R. Forgan of St. Andrews, Scotland. The crown stamping is a little hard to make out as it is double stamped, I believe is reads, “J. Williams, Special.” He would have likely been the local professional who retailed this putter out of his pro shop. The thick brass sole plate is stamped, “The Tolley Putter, Forganite.” Forgan developed a process where they pressure treated some of their wood club heads with oils to make them more weather resistant. Any Forgan wood headed club that underwent this process was labeled as a “Forganite” club. No cracks in club head, neck, or shaft. There are just some very small nicks to the brass along the leading edge. Brass sole plate with a nice honey patina. Wooded shaft is almost certainly original and has no chips or cracks. Shaft remains straight. Nice intact period 14 inch leather wrap grip is period with intact whippings. Leather not dried out and grip likely the original. 34 ¾ inches in total club length. Please see my other wood shafted and vintage collectable golf clubs. Some are quite rare. Also listing collectable PING putters on a regular basis. All without reserve. THANKS! VINTAGE GOLF CLUBS HAND FORGED IN SCOTLAND Here we have a set of 6 golf clubs that were made for a person, A. Rigby of Santa Ana, Cal. as the stamp reads on the back of each club inside an oval shape. There are several stamps on each club and I will list those here: HAND FORGED IN SCOTLAND NPB L - Basically it’s a stamp of the right hand, actual stamp is not a cartoon but this is all I could find to illustrate. Now that’s all the stamps on all of the clubs. There are more stamps on all the clubs not including the Whippet Putter and they are listed as follows: “NICOLLS INDICATOR” in a circle CARRYING POWER Now I will list each club, any other individual stampings or markings other than above, & their approximate length in inches from heel to top of grip: WHIPPET PUTTER 33” NIBLICK 15/50 YDS 35½” MASHIE-NIBLICK 30/80 YDS 35½” DEEP FACE MASHIE 70/100 YDS 36½” IRON 3 140/60 YDS 36½” IRON 2 150/70 YDS 36½” Antique, Vintage, RH with wooden shaft and old leather grip. These clubs appear to be in great condition! With antique/older clubs you can expect to see the grip, shaft and club head to have scratches, nicks, worn and aged condition. I mention this now so nobody buying thinks these old clubs are in "MINT" condition. They are not. These are in great condition considering the age. This is a nice collectors piece or display piece! Again, the condition of this club is great and for display or possibly even for play? I don't see anything wrong with this club except the age and some normal wear/tear. Many of the Hickory/Wooden Shafted Clubs can have a shaft that is bowed either slightly or even substantially. These clubs aren’t bowed and appear very straight.
